All the while be aware enemy can rebuild front line defence and push you back to original attack start. Now add to this 256 people in said game all using vehicles, air strikes and a proper command and comms struture. MAG ..... EPIC..... Still failed sadly. DUST 514. 16 versus 16, lets run around like headless chickens in a glorified free for all. DUST 514...... TRASH...... Fail date TBA. Edit
MAG failed for a lot of reasons, it's primary goal wasn't one of them. The game was much to big in scope for the PS3, and also lacked actual purpose. Sure, join a huge 128 vs128 ... but what did you get out of it? Nothing really. There was no purpose to the factions, etc.
I'm wishful that Sony brings back MAG for PS4 and makes it the game it should have been, but those wishes have been somewhat replaced by Dust.
Since Dust is a MMO project, I hope to see it's vision stretch to the PS4 and achieve this grand vision. Large scale battle with air, ground and maybe mech, water battles with well divided objectives. Dust has the potential to grow, and I hope it does so well.
Getting back to topic, yes, the game modes are ... a bit to be desired for. The original Skirmish back last August was, to be honest, the best fun I'd had with dust to date. The first game I played had frame rate issues, lag issues and lots more ... but man I remember running up the hill with other mercs as we were on the attacking side. The gameplay in general can be compared to battlefield, but Dust felt unique.
I just hope that original mode comes back. If your going to fight for planet conquest, usually that means that there is already someone there that owns it and trying to defend, so attack/defence ... unless it's a neutral territory with no owners, then the current game modes apply.
One other mode I could see is a type of 1 sided capture the flag: Mission assigned that attacker is to steal vital info/material from enemy based, so in essence, capture 3-5 flags. Defending group simply has to try and hold them off, or side mission is to infiltrate and sabotage attacking MMC and decrease overall timer each successful sabotage.
In the end, all I'm saying is that all fights will be of a attack/defence gameplay, but little tweaks could be made like the above examples, and also previously mentioned fights on titan ships for capture, etc. I hope this major patch was just CCP trying to focus on gameplay so that next patch/update they can try and experiment a little more on game modes.
